Morning good spirits . . . is the olfactory memory of May 2nd at Sainte Elle in France. A vaporization Evocation of a morning in the countryside at Sainte Elle and the chateaux de la Loire. The sun is not out yrt. Saturday morning in the countryside, It is spring time, May is coming, the night wintery weather leaving little by little. Everyone is asleep. Walking alone in the garden, no noise around., only the whispering of nature waking up. A mist, delicate, on the pond. A cashmere around her neck. She should have put on boots, her ballet shoes are now wet with dew. First rosebuds appear, uncoloured. The dog rolls in the grass, the gardener mowed yesterday. Waiting for the sun to rise above the birch woods, she walks on the paved terrace. She looks far off, everything is green . . . but the sky, barely blue. The garden will look beautiful in a few weeks, if only the sweet peas could be as delicate as last year's! Anyway . . . she will go back home and what will be left is the feeling of the sweet, fresh and heady pureness of the nature. A Russian tea, a piece of pink grapefruit and another morning . . .
