Domaine Michel 2005Splendid northern Rhone Syrah from a seventh generation winemaking family. The vines, between 40 and 95 years old, grow 'en gobelet' as individual bushes clinging to steep slopes of lean, crushed granite and silt. This makes for tiny, thick skinned grapes and very imposing wines. The '05 is dense purple with cassis and mulberry fruit and, as always, will be bottled unfiltered to retain its full impact. Drink 2007 2016.
